All dioceses in the United States have been invited to participate in a national Catholic “call-in day” to Congress to express support for Dreamers. The call to congressional offices in Washington, D.C. will take place on Monday, February 26, 2018. This initiative is an important effort by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to urge Congress to find a legislative solution for our Dreamers before the March 5 deadline President Trump has set for ending the protection of “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals,” or “DACA.”
Many in our local church have already contacted their legislators by mail, phone, or visiting in person to highlight our concern as Catholics. But this urgent matter is now at its height, as the March 5 deadline approaches and over thousands face the possibility of losing their DACA benefits – the ability to work legally, serve in the military, go to school, and most of all, avoid deportation. Now is the time to urge lawmakers to act.
We continue to pray and show our solidarity for our immigrant brothers and sisters in Christ.
